Gurneys Fish Shop

Gurnays staff inside the shopGurneys was set up by Mike Gurney around forty years ago when he learnt to grow oysters in the creeks and how to smoke fish. The first fish shop in Brancaster was just ten square feet and was known as the Hole in the wall. It was the first fishmongers on the coast road. In 1992 the Burnham Market shop opened, selling the very best in locally produced smoked fish, shellfish and wet fish, mainly landed locally.
Gurneys display of productsGurneys sells a vast range of products (an extensive list can be found on their new website) including lobster, crab, mussels and peeled brown shrimp; monkfish, sea bass and halibut; smoked wild salmon, mackerel and kippers; along with pâtés, sauces and their delicious own prepared meals such as prawn curry, chowder and fishcakes.

Gurneys favourites (made in the shop) Gurneys home made productsinclude: a traditional style fishcake made with salmon, white fish, potato, parslay and seasoning; Kiln Roast Salmon and Dill Pâté; a french style soup made with a mixture of shellfish, wine, fennel, tomato, cod and saffron and their zingy Sweet Chilli Sauce – a dipping sauce made with kaffir lime leaves, garlic and ginger.
